Mara Sigalos-Rivera, MD, PMH-C
I am a board certified psychiatrist with a passion for providing empathetic care with special attention to cultural, social, biological, and psychological contributions to mental illness. My clinical experience includes treating a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses with particular interest in anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, perinatal/women’s mental health, and trauma. I believe in working collaboratively to create personalized treatment plans that can include medications, lifestyle changes, and/or psychotherapy with the goal of improving mental wellness.
As an undergraduate, I attended Vanderbilt University and graduated with a double major in Neuroscience and Spanish with magna cum laude honors. I earned my medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine where I was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Additionally, in medical school, I was awarded the Hilde Bruch award for excellence in psychiatry. For my psychiatry residency training, I attended the University of Southern California/LA General program. As part of my psychiatry residency training, I was selected as a chief resident, concentrating on resident and medical student education. Clinically, in addition to general psychiatric practice, I have received focused training in the treatment of pregnant and postpartum patients and have worked closely with pediatric and OBGYN physicians in an integrated care model. My psychotherapy training includes cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I am also perinatal mental health certified through postpartum support international. I am a LGBTQ+ friendly and social justice oriented physician.
On a personal note, I live in my hometown of Austin, TX. I enjoy hiking, yoga, cooking, reading, and trying to keep up with my active young children and dog.
